    Garrad Ras, Wayne State College

    The program will discuss the use of competency modeling as a tool for strategic collaboration for HR professionals. Specifically, it will examine use cases to promote the HR function as strategic partner in the board room and to build educational partnerships with institutions of higher education.
    Dr. Ras worked as a CPA for twelve years for accounting firms, a manufacturer and a nonprofit organization in Siouxland. In 2005, he accepted a position as a full-time faculty member at Wayne State. After 18 years of teaching, he became Dean of the School of Business and Technology in August of 2023. In this role he has formed partnerships with industry, a key focus in the School of Business and Technology.
    Dr. Ras earned a bachelor’s degree from Olivet Nazarene University in Illinois, an MBA from Wayne State College and a doctoral degree from the University of Nebraska. His dissertation focused on global competency development for managers. He has consulted with a multinational corporation on global competency development and competency modeling.
    Dr. Ras’s research passion is in the global arena. He loves to travel and learn new languages. He and his wife Ronda, a guidance counselor, have three children and three granddaughters. They reside in Wayne.
